First report of Dickeya dadantii causing stem rot of poinsettia in Taiwan.
Stem rot symptoms were observed on potted poinsettia (Euphorbia pulcherrima) cv. Wonderful plants in a nursery located in Tongluo Township, Miaoli County, Taiwan. Infected plants exhibited large water-soaked lesions on the upper portion of their shoots and stem lodging occurred in many severely infected plants. In most cases, the water-soaked lesions also expanded along the petiole up to the base of the leaf blade. The causal pathogen was isolated and identified as Dickeya dadantii based on biochemical, molecular and pathogenicity analyses. This is thought to be the first report of D. dadantii causing stem rot of poinsettia in Taiwan.
