Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

First record of Piezodorus guildinii on soybean in Mexico.

Abstract

Numerous stink bug adults and nymphs were observed feeding on pods in commercial soyabean fields near Rio Bravo, in northern Tamaulipas, Mexico, in November 2017. The species was different from the other stink bugs known to feed on soyabeans in the area. The new species was later identified as the redbanded stink bug, Piezodorus guildinii based on morphological analysis. Yield losses caused by P. guildini on soyabean were estimated to be approximately 30%. This is thought to be the first report of this invasive species in Mexico.
