First report of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. niveum race 3 causing wilt of watermelon in Florida, U.S.A.
A Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. niveum (Fon) isolate was collected from Madison County, Florida, USA, in May 2015. It was recovered from infected watermelon stem slices that were surface sterilized for 1.0 minute in 0.85% sodium hypochlorite and rinsed with sterile water. Morphological, molecular and pathogenicity analyses further confirmed that the pathogen belonged to the race 3 type. This is thought to be the first report of F. oxysporum f.sp. niveum race 3 causing wilt of watermelon in Florida, USA.
