First report of stagonosporopsis trachelii on campanula trachelium in Italy.

During September 2016, several plants of Campanula trachelium growing in mixed borders as well as in pots in a private garden located in the Biella province (northern Italy) showed leaf brown necrosis. The fungal causal agent of the disease was isolated from affected leaves and identified as Stagonosporopsis trachelii (Allesch.) Aveskamp, Gruyter & Verkley (Sin.: Phoma trachelii and Ascochyta bohemica) by the ITS (Internal Transcribed Spacer), in accordance with the morphological characteristics observed in vitro and with the description previously reported for P. trachelii. This is the first report of S. trachelii on C. trachelium in Italy.
