Abstract

Occurrence of Hypera postica (GYLLENHAL) (Coleoptera, Curculionidae) on Yorojima Is. and Tokunoshima Is., the Amami Isls., Southwestern Japan.

Abstract

Hypera postica (GYLLENHAL, 1813) is well-known as the alfalfa or lucerne weevil, a notorious pest of alfalfa and clover. This species was introduced to Japan in the 1980s and then became widespread in most parts of the country. In the Amami Isls., central Ryukyus, this species has been recorded from the YorontĂ´ Is. and Okinoerabujima Is. but never from the other islands. In this short report, we record H. postica for the first time from Yorojima Is. and Tokunoshima Is. in the Amami Isls.
