First report of persimmon cryptic virus in Spain.

In the spring of 2015, a persimmon (Diospyros kaki) sample from Algemesi (Ribera del Xúquer, Spain) showing interveinal chlorosis and necrosis of leaves was analysed by next generation sequencing of siRNAs using Illumina technology. The causal pathogen was identified as Persimmon cryptic virus (PeCV), a putative member of the genus Deltapartitivirus (Family Partitiviridae), based on various molecular analyses. This is thought to be the first report of PeCV in Spain.
