First report of Cherry virus A and Plum bark necrosis stem pitting-associated virus in cherry in Chile.
A total of 19 cherry (Prunus avium) samples collected in Chile, in the spring of 2016, were subjected to high-throughput sequencing analyses. Small RNA extracts were obtained and sequencing libraries were prepared and sequenced. Trimming and de novo assembly of sequenced reads were carried out and the obtained contigs were analysed. The presence of Cherry virus A (CVA) and Plum bark necrosis stem pitting-associated virus (PBNSPaV) were detected based on various molecular analyses. This is thought to be the first report of CVA and PBNSPaV infecting cherry in Chile and South America.
