Abstract

First report of potato blackleg and soft rot caused by Pectobacterium wasabiae in Turkey.

Abstract

In 2015, blackleg symptoms were observed in potato cultivars Agria, Elfe, Granola and Jelly in Yozgat province (Sorgun town) in the Central Anatolian region of Turkey. Disease incidence varied from 5-20%. Seventeen infected stem and tuber samples each from 9 commercial potato fields were collected and analysed in the laboratory. The causal pathogen was identified as Pectobacterium wasabiae based on biochemical and molecular analyses. This is thought to be the first report on the occurrence of P. wasabiae in Turkey.
