Invasive Species Compendium

Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Environmental and economic evaluation of the impact of invasive plant species.

Abstract

This paper reviews the literature data on the environmental and economic impact of the invasive plant species, as well as the existing norms of legal regulation of biological invasions. The conclusion is made that there is a need to develop and adopt a national strategy on invasive species, federal legislation governing the policies of invasive species, development of common approaches and criteria for assessing the impact caused by the invasive species. An effective management strategy of the control of invasive species is possible with a rational approach that takes into account individual ecological and biological features of the species, their relationship with the rest of the community, the properties of the ecosystems they invaded, prevention and control costs, time cost and eradication effects.
