Abstract

First report of Bidens mosaic virus in Arracacha (Arracacia xanthorriza) from Brazil.

Abstract

In April of 2001, arracacha (Arracacia xanthorrhiza) plants were collected in Distrito Federal, Brazil, for production of micropropragative material. One of the plants showed mottling symptoms. After inoculation of this sample to Chenopodium quinoa plants, local lesions were produced, indicating the presence of viruses. The causal pathogen was identified as Bidens mosaic virus (BiMV) based on molecular and pathogenicity analyses. This is thought to be the first report of BiMV on arracacha in Brazil.
