Abstract

First report of Phytophthora tropicalis causing stem and root rot on sesame (Sesamum indicum) in Mexico.

Abstract

During December 2011, the presence of rot was detected in sesame plants in different commercial plots located in Guerrero State, Mexico. Symptoms were stem and root rot, yellowing and wilting of leaves. The causal pathogen was identified as Phytophthora tropicalis based on morphological, molecular and pathogenicity analyses. This is thought to be the first report of P. tropicalis causing stem and root rot on sesame.
