Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

First report of the root-rot pathogen, Armillaria gallica, on koa (Acacia koa) and 'ōhi'a Lehua (Metrosideros polymorpha) on the Island of Kaua'i, Hawai'i.

Abstract

In April 2015, Armillaria rhizomorphs were collected from Koa (Acacia koa) and 'Ōhi'a lehua (Metrosideros polymorpha) on the island of Kaua'i, Hawaii, USA. Based on somatic pairing tests, isolates were assigned to 2 genets or clones of the same species. The causal pathogen was identified as Armillaria gallica based on morphological, molecular and pathogenicity analyses. This is thought to be the first report of Armillaria gallica infecting Koa (Acacia koa) and 'Ōhi'a lehua (M. polymorpha) in Hawaii, USA.
