First report of Grapevine virus A in Russian grapevines.
To determine the current status of Grapevine virus A (GVA) in Russia, surveys were conducted in a vineyard region west of the Kerch peninsula in September 2014. In total, 100 symptomatic samples exhibiting leaf curling, leaf colour changes (to red and yellow), and vein necrosis were collected from four vineyards for laboratory analyses. Each sample was analysed by RT-PCR independently. In total, 6 samples (6%) were found positive for GVA. These samples were taken from Malvazija Istarska, San Colombano, and Pernan grapevine varieties planted in the national collection of grapevine varieties 35 to 38 years ago. This is thought to be the first report of GVA in the Russian Federation.
