Abstract

First report of Brome mosaic virus in wheat in Estonia.

Abstract

In 2013 to 2015, a total of 179 leaf samples of cereals (wheat, barley, oat, rye and triticale) showing the chlorotic mottle or stripes, yellowing, reddening, stunting or other symptoms characteristic of possible viral infection were collected from 46 different locations in Estonia. The presence of Brome mosaic virus (BMV) was detected in various winter wheat samples during the study based on various molecular analyses. This is thought to be the first report on the BMV occurrence in Estonia, found sporadically in 2 locations in 2013-2015.
