Abstract

Occurrence of Phomopsis sp. causing cankers on pecan trees in Buenos Aires province, Argentina.

Abstract

In April 2014, the presence of cankers on branches and twigs was observed on pecan (Carya illinoiensis) trees in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, where the incidence ranged from 10 to 50% of the surveyed plantations. The causal pathogen was identified as Phomopsis sp. based on morphological, genetic (ITS) and pathogenicity analyses. This is thought to be the first report of the occurrence of Phomopsis sp. causing cankers on pecan trees in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
