Abstract

New data on the occurrence of Phalaenopsis mite (Tenuipalpus pacificus Baker, 1945) in Hungary.

Abstract

The Phalaenopsis mite (Tenuipalpus pacificus Baker, 1945) was recorded at first time two years ago in Hungary. The first published data was without any information about the morphology of this mite, therefore the second Hungarian record is accompanied with a detailed description of this species. This paper demonstrates the first case on the association of T. pacificus with Phalaenopsis orchids and describes the damages caused on leaves, stems and rarely on flowers. A new key to distinguish the Tenuipalpus species known to occur in Hungary is given.
