Abstract

First report of Meloidogyne hapla infecting Crofton weed (Eupatorium adenophorum) in China.

Abstract

Severely stunted and withered Crofton weed (Ageratina adenophora) with rotted and galled roots were observed in a field in Lingcang, Yunnan, China, in June 2014. Vermiform nematodes were extracted from root zone soil by decanting and sieving and mature females were dissected from roots. The causal organism was identified as Meloidogyne hapla based on morphometric, isoenzyme and species-specific PCR analyses. This is thought to be the first report of M. hapla infecting Crofton weed in China and the world.
