Abstract

A fruit rot and leaf spot disease of loquat (Eriobotrya japonica) was observed in May 2013 in Sari city, Mazandaran, Iran, on nearly 40% of the trees planted in an arboretum. The causal pathogen was identified was Alternaria alternata based on cultural, morphological, genetic and pathogenicity analyses. This is thought to be the first report of A. alternata causing fruit rot and leaf spot in Iran.
