Abstract

First report of Cucurbit aphid-borne yellows virus, Watermelon mosaic virus, and Zucchini yellow mosaic virus infecting zucchini plants in Libya.

Abstract

Field-grown marrows with viral symptoms including leaf yellowing, yellow mosaic, deformation of leaves and fruits and stunting were found in the region of Fezzan near the town of Sabha, district Sabha, Libya in 2012. The prevalent symptom on the inspected plants was yellow mosaic. The causal pathogens were identified as Cucurbit aphid-borne yellows virus (CABYV), Watermelon mosaic virus (WMV) and Zucchini yellow mosaic virus (ZYMV) based on DAS-ELISA and RT-PCR analyses. This is thought to be the first report of the natural occurrence of CABYV, WMV and ZYMV in Libya.
