Abstract

Epidemiology of Blackberry chlorotic ringspot virus.

Abstract

Blackberry chlorotic ringspot virus (BCRV) is an ilarvirus infecting rosaceous plants. BCRV has been detected in several U.S. states infecting rose, raspberry, and blackberry indicating that the virus may be involved in several diseases caused by mixed virus infection. BCRV epidemiology including the development of efficient detection protocols, geographic distribution, transmission, and the identification of alternative hosts was studied. BCRV was detected in areas previously undocumented, is transmitted by seed at rates that exceed 50% and apple has been identified as a host of the virus.
