Abstract

Development of integrated management practices for the control of Chinese tallow on Parris Island Marine Corps Recruit Depot.

Abstract

This paper presents the results of surveys conducted in Parris Island Marine Corps Recruit Depot (South Carolina, USA) for the presence and abundance of invasive species, monitor Chinese tallow (Sapium sebiferum) population and assess the effectiveness of previous control efforts. The efficacy of various management practices (mechanical, herbicide and fire, mechanical and herbicide, herbicide and fire and herbicide) for the control of Chinese tallow is discussed and the need for a more effective management approach is pointed out because the Chinese tallow population in some areas had increased despite herbicide applications.
