Abstract

Parthenium hysterophorus L. - neither noxious nor an obnoxious weed.

Abstract

This paper mentions studies on medicinal properties, biological activities (including herbicidal, antifeedant and nematicidal) and some beneficial uses (e.g. as phytoaccumulator of heavy metals, green manure, and animal feed) of P. hysterophorus, a notorious, fast-growing, gregarious, pantropical and noxious weed. The emerging vista in terms of application of P. hysterophorus in pharmaceutical, pharmacognostic, cosmetic and agricultural sectors endorse this as fast-growing medicinal herb with immense multifarious relevance, outnumbering the harmful properties to such extent as to promote the recognition ot its eco-friendly nanoparticles for large-scale synthesis of other nanomaterials in the forthcoming nanotechnology-based industries.
