Abstract Full Text

First report of peppermint leaf spot caused by Alternaria alternata in Iran.

Symptoms of leaf spot were observed during a survey in peppermint (Mentha piperita) fields of Kerman (southeast Iran) in November 2012. In some fields, more than 40% of the plants showed leaf spots. The causal pathogen was identified as Alternaria alternata based on cultural, morphological, genetic (ITS) and pathogenicity analyses. This is thought to be the first report of A. alternata on peppermint in Iran.
