From detrimental to desks - how one factory is putting alien plants to good use.
Invasive alien plants are a major threat to South Africa's biodiversity and the country's natural capital. The government's invasive alien plant clearing programme has achieved great success over the years. This paper describes how the Heidelberg Eco-Furniture Factory is turning removed alien invasive plants into practical school desks while providing the local community with much needed jobs. The paper also includes the challenges and future plans for the factory.
