Abstract

First detection of Ligustrum necrotic ringspot virus, Cucumber mosaic virus, and Alternanthera mosaic virus in Mazus reptans in the United States.

Abstract

A plant of Mazus reptans cv. Alba with mild mosaic symptoms was obtained from a nursery in Maryland, USA, in 2010. The causal pathogens were identified as Ligustrum necrotic ringspot virus (LNRV), Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) and Alternanthera mosaic virus (AltMV) based on genetic (PCR and cDNA analyses) and pathogenicity analyses. This is thought to be the first report of LNRV, CMV or AltMV in M. reptans, a commonly grown groundcover plant.
