This special issue includes eleven papers from the 18th International Conference on Aquatic Invasive Species held in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, on 21-25 April 2013. This conference has provided a venue for the exchange of information on various aspects of aquatic invasive species since its inception in 1990. The conference continues to provide an opportunity for dialog between academia, industry and environmental regulators within North America and from abroad. The 18th conference covered a broad range of sessions on issues including early detection, case studies and monitoring of aquatic invasive species, shipping pathways, risk assessment, live bait pathways, control of aquatic invasive species, outreach and policy.
