Abstract
First report of maize lethal necrosis disease in Rwanda.
Abstract
In March and June 2013, maize plants showing signs of maize lethal necrosis (MLN) disease symptoms were observed in the Northern Province of Rwanda. The diseased samples were brought to the laboratory and analysed. The causal pathogens were identified as Maize chlorotic mottle virus (MCMV) and Sugarcane mosaic virus (SCMV) based on real time-PCR analysis. This is thought to be the first report of MLN disease in Rwanda caused by MCMV and SCMV.
