Phytophthora cinnamomi in the rhizosphere of agricultural crops in southern Bahia.
During surveys conducted in Bahia, Brazil, from July 2008 to June 2009, a total of 5 Phytophthora spp. were isolated from the rhizosphere of Heliconia bihai cv. Lobster Claw, Etlingera elatior, Welsh onions and lettuce. The fungal isolates were identified using morphophysiological, sexual compatibility and pathogenicity analyses as P. cinnamomi. This is thought to the first record of this pathogen infesting agricultural crops in the south of Bahia.
