Abstract

Rootworm monitoring activity in 2013.

Abstract

This paper presents the annual summary of the results of the monitoring carried out during 2013 by the regional plant protection service to assess the status of infestation of maize rootworm in Italy. The year 2013 was characterized by a reduction in population levels of rootworm likely as a result of climatic conditions (such as abundant rainfall in spring and great drought in summer). Approximately 96% of the plots monitored in infested regions showed lower average values of catches with cautionary threshold of 6 adults per trap per day. The infested area covered 1 060 000 ha.
