Head smut of barnyard millet: a new disease in Karnataka.


Head smut caused by Ustilago crus-galli was detected in barnyard millet (Echinochloa frumentacea) in Bangalore, Karnataka, India, during the kharif season of 2007. This is thought to be the first report of head smut in barnyard millet in Karnataka. The symptoms of the disease are briefly described.
