The fire blight in 2012.
This paper describes the increasing risk of fire blight (caused by Erwinia amylovora) infection in pear and apple fruits in many regions of Germany and Switzerland due to rise in temperature recorded in 24 April 2012. In fruit plantations and local tall trees, a strong fire blight infestation was recorded. In the Canton of Valais, fire blight in pome fruit has been discovered for the first time. The Federal Office for Agriculture allowed the use of the antibiotic streptomycin for the fire blight control. Resistance development to the bactericide as all well as its residues in honey and fruits were closely monitored.
