Abstract

Monitoring of rootworm in Italy in 2012.

Abstract

In 2012, official surveys were made by the Regional Plant Protection Services on the state of infestations of corn rootworm (Diabrotica virgifera virgifera) in Italy. Analysis of the results shows a state of infestations in line with the observations made in 2011. The results of monitoring in infested areas, in free areas but isolated outbreaks, and in areas completely free are presented. Out of a total of 782 monitored plots of maize in areas infested, the threshold value of 6 adults/trap/day was exceeded at 72 stations, accounting for 9% of total stations. In general, there have been no major economic damage to crops and which are directly attributable to rootworm infestations.
