A new record to the invasive alien flora of India: Azolla cristata.
Abstract
We report here for the first time, the occurrence of Azolla cristata Kaulf. from India. Azolla cristata was collected from Wular lake, the largest freshwater lake in Kashmir, India. Azolla cristata Kaulf. is alien to the Indian flora and invasive in Kashmir. With the help of diagnostic elements observed under light and scanning electron microscopes, the identity of the species was ascertained. All the characters typical of Azolla cristata were present in the samples collected from multiple locations of Wular lake.
