Abstract

First report of Erwinia amylovora on firethorn (Pyracantha coccinea) and mountain ash (Sorbus sp.) in Turkey.

Abstract

During surveys conducted in Konya, Turkey, during the 2009 and 2010 summer seasons, leaf and shoot blight and reddish-coloured cankers were observed on firethorn (Pyracantha coccinea) and brown discoloured leaves and necrotic stem lesions on mountain ash (Sorbus sp.). The causal pathogen was identified as Erwinia amylovora based on cultural, physiological, genetic and pathogenicity tests. This is thought to be the first report of E. amylovora on firethorn and mountain ash in Turkey.
