New pest problems on fruit crops in Punjab.

Abstract

During survey of various fruit crops from 2002 to 2010, 45 new insect and mite pests were identified on different fruit crops. Among these; citrus fruit sucking moths; namely Eudocima materna (Linnaeus), Achaea janata (Linnaeus); flower feeding beetle, Oxycetonia versicolor Fabricius; Mediterranean black scale, Saissetia oleae Olivier; striped mealy bug, Ferrisia virgata (Cockered); wax scale, Drepanococcus chiton (Green); San Jose scale, Quadraspidiotus perniciosus (Comstock); defoliating caterpillar, Lymantria marginata Walker; litchi mite, Aceria litchi (Keifer); mealy bugs, Planococcus lilacinus (Cockered), Maconellicoccus hirsutus (Green) and Nipaecoccus viridis (Newstead) are some new species in Punjab.
