Occurrence of Graphiola phoenicis in date palm in Maranhão.
Plants of date palm with numerous yellowish spots on both sides of the leaflet and rachis were observed in Maranhão, Brazil. The spots on leaves emerged and coalesced, resembling the remains of shells or faeces left by insects. The fungus isolated from diseased plants produced yellow powdery spores interspersed with hyphae. The fungus was identified as G. phoenicis based on its morphological characteristics. This is thought to be the first report of G. phoenicis in date palm from Maranhão.
