Abstract

First report of the Drechslera state of Cochliobolus spicifer infecting seeds of Parthenium hysterophorus in India.

Abstract

During surveys conducted in India, various infected/infested Parthenium hysterophorus seed samples collected from different localities in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, were analysed for the presence of seedborne fungi using standard ISTA techniques. The causal organism was identified as a Drechslera state of Cochliobolus spicifer based on morphological and pathogenicity tests. This is thought to be the first report of the Drechslera state of C. spicifer in the seeds of P. hysterophorus in India.
