Genome organisation of Cherry leaf roll virus.
Selected CLRV isolates were characterized molecularly to identify possible genetic determinants such as the host adaptation, pathogenicity and spread of CLRV to the plant. The bipartite, single stranded RNA genome was first fully sequenced for a CLRV isolate from rhubarb. The RNA1 is 7922 nt and 6335 nt RNA2 long. Both RNAs are polyadenylated and the 5′ VPg covalently attached to the end. Initial sequence comparisons with other nepoviruses confirm a typical genome organization of both CLRV RNAs. The function of the putative homologous gene product of the 2 RNAs is not yet known.
