Worldwide invasive plant, Solanum mauritianum Scop. (Solanaceae) newly naturalized in the Izu Peninsula, Japan.
Solanum mauritianum Scop. is a worldwide invasive plant species, a shrub or small tree native to Southern Brazil. Due to strong invasiveness, its widespread expansion affecting native species has become increasing concern. We found a naturalized S. mauritianum population in the southern part of the Izu Peninsula, central Japan. This is the first report for S. mauritianum naturalized in Japan.
