Transmission of tobacco rattle virus by Saponaria officinalis L. seeds.

Tobacco rattle virus (TRV) has been reported to be transmitted by seeds of the following weed species: Viola arvensis, Myosotis arvensis, Lamium amplexicaule, Capsella bursa-pastoris, Polygonum aviculare, Polygonum convolvulus, Papaver rhoes, Portulaca oleracea, Solanum sarachoides and Xanthium strumarium. Investigation of TRV transmission by seeds of infected Saponaria officinalis L. plants were conducted through bioassays with differential plant hosts and serological ELISA test. Results of study show that RTV is transmited by S. officinalis seeds. This is the first data concerning tobacco rattle virus transmission by Saponaria officinalis L. seeds.
