New mildews appeared recently on Mentha spicata, Verbascum blattaria and Phlox drummondii bred in Piedmont and Liguria.


This paper describes new powdery mildews observed recently for the first time in Italy, namely Golovinomyces biocellatus [Erysiphe biocellata] on Mentha spicata in autumn 2009, Golovinomyces cichoracearum on Verbascum blattaria in autumn 2009 and Podosphaera sp. on Phlox drummondii in autumn 2010. Descriptions of symptoms observed and the identification of the pathogens based on morphological characteristics and intergenic DNA analysis are given.
