Abstract

Hedychium coronarium J. Koenig (Zingiberáceas) is recorded for the first time as new host of Tyrophagus putrescentiae (Schrank) (Acaridae) in the aerial parts of plants where it causes a smaller development, yellowish, deformation and drying of leaves. The mite was located occult in the bent sheaf of leaves and in the sheath. The surface of the sheaf showed a scraped of the epidermis that later becomes in leaf necrosis.
