Insect evolution below the species level: ecological specialization and The Origin of Species. Articles derived from the RES Darwin-Wallace Celebratory Meeting held at Rothamsted Research, Harpenden, Hertfordshire, UK, 22 April 2009.

Abstract

These proceedings contain 14 papers on various aspects of insect evolution. Topics covered include the following: evolutionary aspects of ecological generalism with special reference to conservation biological control; DNA profiling of host-herbivore interactions in tropical forests; speciation in fig wasps; sequential speciation and the diversity of parasitic insects; the roles and interactions of reproductive isolation mechanisms in fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) host strains; micro-evolutionary change in relation to insecticide resistance in Myzus persicae; and rapid genetic changes in natural insect populations.
