Invasive Species Compendium

Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

A new species of the genus Systasis Walker, 1834 (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) parasitizing an important invasive alien insect pest Obolodiplosis robiniae (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) from China.

Abstract

A new species of the genus Systasis (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae), i.e. S. obolodiplosis sp. nov., was found in China and was described in this paper. The new species is a parasitoid of the larvae-pupae of the locust gall midge, Obolodiplosis robiniae (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae), which is a newly invaded serious insect pest in China. S. obolodiplosis can be regarded as a potential natural enemy for the biological control of this pest. Morphological characters are depicted in detail and partially illustrated. Type specimens are deposited in the insect museum Collection of the Chinese Academy of Forestry.
