Abstract

Fire blight in the Voronezh region.

Abstract

Fire blight caused by Erwinia amylovora is quarantine disease, which is entered into the List of quarantine organisms as absent from the territory of the Russian Federation. However, occurrences of E. amylovora were recorded on apple and pear orchards, as well on wild pear in 2008 in the Voronezh region, European Russia. Measures of disease control are outlined, including pruning and burning of diseased branches, treatment of injuries with wound sealing compounds, spraying of trees with copper compounds, and control of disease vectors, primarily bark borers and aphids.
