Diabrotica in maize in Friuli Venezia Giulia: update for 2008.
Results from 242 official monitoring stations (using pheromone traps) located throughout Friuli Venezia Giulia (FVG), NE Italy, are reported for the presence of western corn rootworm (Diabrotica virgifera virgifera) in maize crops in 2008. The expansion of the pest's range westwards into Pordenone province was confirmed, with the pest being found for the first time in the Caneva area. Monitoring was also carried out on 322 farms in FVG using yellow traps in July-August, with specimens being caught at 8 locations. Rises in population levels, symptoms of attack and control strategies (principally use of crop rotations) are also discussed.
