Invasive Species Compendium

Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Influence of environmental factors on the population buildup of Helicoverpa armigera Hübner and Epilachna vigintioctopunctata (Febr.) on Aswagandha (Withania somnifera Linn.).

Abstract

In an experiment conducted during rabi 2003-04 and 2004-05 in Pantnagar, Uttarakhan, India, the most favourable period for the population build-up of H. armigera and E. vigintioctopunctata on W. somnifera was from the 12th to the 14th standard week and the 10th to the 12th standard week, respectively, during which the highest population and activity were recorded. The larval population of H. armigera and beetle population of E. vigintioctopunctata, and plant infestation due to both pests were positively influenced by fluctuation of temperature and sunshine hours but negatively influenced by relative humidity, rainfall and number of rainy days.
