A new tomato pest in France: Tuta absoluta.
Tuta absoluta, which is a new pest of tomatoes in France, was first identified at the end of 2008 in southern Corsica, then in the Var and Bouches-du-Rhône regions (in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur). In January 2009 it was reported from the Drôme region (in the Rhône Alpes). An account is given of the geographical distribution of the pest, its morphology, biology, plant hosts (tomato is the principal host), damage caused and control (environmental, pheromone trapping, biological, integrated, plant extracts). The need for vigilance in looking out for the pest in France is emphasized.
