Abstract

Overview of interesting macro-Lepidoptera including migrating Lepidoptera recorded in the years 2002-2005.

Abstract

In this third report in the new series on macro-Lepidoptera in The Netherlands the most interesting records from the period 2002-2005 are presented and discussed. This report is including the 64th report (since 1940) of migrating Lepidoptera from the period 2003-2005. This report has been compiled by use of the national database 'Noctua' which is managed by the workgroup Lepidoptera Faunistics (part of EIS-The Netherlands) and Dutch Butterfly Conservation (De Vlinderstichting). Fifty-two species are discussed in detail. Some eye-catching results are records from Eupithecia phoeniceata and Hyphoraia aulica, both new for the Dutch fauna, and two specimens of Saturnia pyri in 2005. For migrating Lepidoptera, the year 2003 was a remarkable year with record numbers for many species, for instance Iphiclides podalirius, Vanessa cardui, Colias croceus and Macroglossum stellatarum. An overview of all recorded numbers is presented in table 2.
