Abstract

A taxonomic investigation of the family Asteraceae (Compositae) growing throughout the Rajshahi division in Bangladesh was carried out. A total of 36 species under 29 genera of the family Asteraceae were collected and identified. Eight genera of the family Asteraceae are cultivated in the study area which included 8 species. A brief taxonomic description of each species is given with local name and valid name. About the total number of species Ageratum conyzoides, Blumea lacera, Eclipta alba, Tridax procumbens, Vernonia patula and Xanthium indicum [Xanthium strumarium] are much populated and found in sandy roadside areas of Rajshahi, Naogaon, Nawabgong, Natore, Bogra and Joypurhat. Mikania cordata is only one climbing species all over the study area and Parthenium hysterophorus is new record for Bangladesh.
